Two abandoned terrapins were discovered by a jogger in Perth at the weekend.
The reptiles, who have since been given the festive names Jingle and Bell, were dumped in a Tupperware dish near the city’s Muirton Place.
They have since been taken on by the Scottish SPCA, which is appealing for information.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on 10 December and are now caring for the terrapins at their rescue and rehoming centre in Dundee.
Centre assistant manager Dale Christie said, “Both terrapins are quite small and can be handled. They appear to be in relatively good nick, apart from some knocks to their shell.
“We are appealing for any information or if anyone noticed any suspicious activity we urge you to get in touch.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
