A police patrol car has been engulfed in flames on the A9 south of Perth, temporarily closing the northbound carriageway.
No casualties were reported, but the vehicle was well alight by the time a crew from the city arrived.
The Police Scotland BMW is said to have caught fire, close to the Tibbermore junction on the Perth to Dunblane stretch, at around 1.15pm.
Emergency services remain in attendance and there is at present no indication of when the road will be fully reopened.
Disruption is expected until the vehicle can be recovered and motorists are urged to consider alternative routes, though it is understood one lane has reopened.
Police Scotland said no officer had been injured in the incident, which left the vehicle a burned-out shell.
A spokeswoman said the fire was not the result of an accident or pursuit but was believed to have been caused by a mechanical fault.
