A Blairgowrie bistro has closed its doors after three years leaving customers “gutted”.
Cargill’s Bistro on Lower Mill Street announced it was shutting with immediate effect on Friday.
Around 15 members of staff have lost their jobs, as the company revealed the harsh reality of trying to trade in the current climate.
The business thanked its customers and staff as it cited the “legacy” of the Covid pandemic as one of reasons behind the closure.
‘Instantly blinded by the struggle to survive’
Owner, Thomas Young, said on the company’s Facebook page : “Our doors are now closed.
“I think I have gone through all possible combinations of emotions in the last three years at Cargill’s.
“It’s with great heartache that the lasting one could be sadness, as I announce the closure of the business with immediate effect.
“We opened our own version of Cargill’s seven months before COVID struck.
“Grand plans and great ideas were almost instantly blinded by the struggle to survive, which has loomed over us since.
“When venturing out in 2019, I had no idea that we were not only creating a business and following my dream, but that we were also creating a family.
“Built from our amazing team and our loyal customers.
The legacy of the Covid pandemic is very real.
Cargill’s Bistro owner, Thomas Young
“I have really, really, really, tried to keep our family together, making personal sacrifices that most will never know, to maintain and build on our achievements and where we’ve come so far.”
“But, although it’s not dominating the headlines anymore, the legacy of the COVID pandemic is very real.
“Trading out of these significant liabilities was likely, but made impossible with the new challenges from the impact of the current situation in Eastern Europe.”
‘Truly saddened to see this’
Following the announcement customers commented in their droves saying they were “saddened” to see the premises close.
One customer commented: “I am gutted to read this as I love Cargill’s for beautiful food.
“Had many a lovely lunch with you and was always happy to return.”
Another added: “Truly saddened to see this.
“Any time we were in the area we always came in for a lunch or dinner and never were we disappointed.”
