A pensioner has been airlifted to hospital after a glider crashed into a field near Loch Leven before splitting in two.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, raced to the scene in Scotlandwell near Kinross.
The incident happened just after 4pm when the glider crashed as it was attempting to land at the Scottish Gliding Centre.
Two occupants – thought to be a pupil and instructor – were in the glider.
One of them, a 70-year-old man, was airlifted by Scotland Charity Air Ambulance, to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
It’s understood his injuries are not serious.
Glider split in two
An eyewitness said the pair both appeared to be conscious and talking to the rescue team around them.
A video has since emerged showing the terrifying moment the glider crashed to the ground.
The glider appears to smash into a fence before splitting in two.
It’s understood a controlled landing was carried out following a mechanical failure.
The eyewitness said: “I was driving along the road when I saw the glider fall to the ground before hitting a fence, bouncing and apparently breaking into two pieces.
“It looked like the glider was trying to make a landing at the gliding centre close by.
‘Really scary to watch’
“The glider looks really badly damaged – split in two – but the two people inside appeared to be talking to the people around them.”
He added: “This was really scary to watch. I just hope the pair are alright.”
A spokesman for the gliding centre said they couldn’t comment at this stage.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Friday police were called to a report of a glider having crashed in a field in Scotlandwell, Kinross.
“Emergency services attended and the 70-year-old male pilot was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as a precaution.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
SCCA confirmed a man was airlifted to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the crash.
