Perth nightclub The Venue is set to be brought back to life after a new tenant came in with grand plans.

Friel-Myles Holdings Ltd has lodged plans that would see the building become a functioning late-night space again.

The former Venue nightclub on St John’s Street closed its doors in November 2021 and the city centre unit has been empty ever since.

A bar will be opened, keeping the original name, while a separate nightclub will also be created called Club One.

Allan Friel-Myles, the new tenant, said: “The new Venue will look to be a comfortable late lounge that will cater to the 21 and overs, with a more modern twist than what was there before.

“There will be a whole new nightclub as well.

“We are really looking to enhance the street, we want things to be better.

“I am very excited for it to all come together.”

Friel-Myles Holdings Ltd is also behind the popular Perth pub, the Half a Tanner, and Tickety Boo’s in Dundee.

What are the plans?

Mr Friel-Myles also said: “We intend to fully soundproof the building, to an even better standard than there was before.

“There will also be a totally separate nightclub entrance.”

Downstairs would see a new look Venue bar, with a separate entrance leading punters to the nightclub upstairs.

The exterior has already been freshened up.

Plans show that the new tenants hope to create a number of job opportunities, as well as improving the overall appearance of St John’s Street.

The exterior has already been painted in line with the standards of the conservation area in which the building is located.

A series of unfortunate events

The building has been subject to a series of unfortunate events over the last few years.

In February 2020, the roof of the building collapsed due to storm damage.

Luckily, nobody was hurt in the incident.

The roof collapsed on February 9 2020 following Storm Ciara.

Later that year, in August, misfortune struck again when a fire broke out.

Twenty customers were evacuated from the building, and it was believed to have started in the abandoned flats above the nightclub.

The new tenants are hopeful that a new look, and modern touches will give the building a second chance at success.

Mr Friel-Myles added: “We are looking to reinstate, and modernise a building that’s quite prominent in Perth.

“The unit is in a prime spot, and it will be great to see it in use again.

“We are wanting to bring life back to St John’s Street.

“We are hopeful that the council will approve the application.

“I know this new venue will bring value to the city centre.”
