An investigation will be launched into the police’s handing of the death of a Perth pensioner in the Highlands.
John Winton McNab, 86, has been formally identified as the man who died in a crash on the A887 in Invermoriston on Sunday.
Officers confirmed the identity and revealed the case has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc), which investigates incidents involving Police Scotland and complaints made against the force.
The Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service has instructed Pirc to investigate the death and police have referred the circumstances to the review body.

Mr McNab was reported missing five days before he died in the crash, which saw the road closed for more than five hours.
He was the driver of a grey Mercedes B discovered at around 1.20pm on Sunday September 18.
His family was informed ahead of a formal identification.
They said in a statement: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the search to trace Winton, these efforts are greatly appreciated by the family.
“We request that our privacy is respected at this sad time.”
Police to be investigated
Police say inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
In relation to the investigation, a statement said: “Pirc has been instructed by the COPF to investigate the death of Mr McNab.
“Its report on the circumstances will be submitted to COPFS at the conclusion of its investigation.
“Police Scotland has also referred the circumstances to the Pirc.”
