A potato firm has had employees digging deep to raise money for charity.

More than £8,000 has been raised by the Scotland site of potato supplier, Branston, for Macmillan Cancer Support and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).

Employees at the site, based in Abernethy, have generously donated to the charities through a number of fundraising activities.

Members of Branston’s Abernethy team presented a cheque to each charity for £4310 at a special handover ceremony. In attendance were Isla Denwar on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support and Fiona Dennis from SCAA.

Kevin Imrie, general manager of Branston’s Abernethy site, said: “I am incredibly proud of our team for giving their time and effort so generously to fundraise for these local and very worthwhile charities.

“They have all made an outstanding contribution to the fundraising efforts here, either by organising and taking part in an event, or supporting colleagues by donating to their events, which is testament to the final amount we have raised.

“We would also like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to our suppliers who have offered fantastic support to our fundraising events.

“It’s very important to us for our colleagues to be engaged in fundraising for the charities we choose to support, which is why we are putting it to our team to nominate the causes we support for 2017. We would like the money we raise to go to organisations that will make a real difference to our local community as well as our colleagues and their loved ones.”

Fiona Dennis, SCAA administrator, added: “We are very grateful for all the time and effort everyone has put in to raise such a fantastic amount for the two charities in such a short space of time.

“We rely 100% on donations to run our life-saving service, and every penny we receive makes a difference.”

Speaking of the donation, Isla Dewar, area fundraising manager for North Scotland for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “It is a fantastic amount raised that will help us provide help to more people affected by cancer.”
