A “parking cone lodged in a pipe” was the reason for a sewage spill in Perth earlier this week.
The spill at Craigie Burn left a foul smell in the area and caused concerns about health and safety around Murray Crescent.
On Friday, Scottish Water revealed a trapped parking cone was to blame.
‘Difficult to dislodge’ traffic cone in Craigie sewage pipe
A spokesperson said: “Our local team attended the storm storage tanks next to the Craigie Burn, opposite Murray Crescent, in response to reports of the tanks overflowing.
“We identified an obstruction at the outlet from the tanks caused by a parking cone which had become lodged in the pipe.
“We have been able to partially clear the obstruction today [Friday], but the remainder of the cone is difficult to access and dislodge.
“We are arranging for specialised equipment to be brought to the site in an effort to cut through and dislodge the cone from the pipe, if at all possible, without needing to excavate near the bank of the burn.
“A clean-up of the affected area has also been arranged.
“We continue to monitor the performance of the storm tanks at this location, one of which was installed in recent years, to ensure they provide the required level of resilience.”
It was initially thought bad weather was to blame for the leak, after heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
Residents in the area have suffered flooding problems in the past with the Craigie Burn last bursting it banks in September.
