Drivers in Blairgowrie will face a 16-mile diversion during major roadworks later this month.
Parts of Gas Brae, Wellmeadow and Boat Brae are to close for seven days from November 17.
Temporary traffic lights will later be installed on a section of Boat Brae.
Perth and Kinross Council says the restrictions are for “essential” resurfacing work on the roads and pavements.
Road closures
The work will affect a section of road from Gas Brae, at its junction with Reform Street, to Boat Brae’s junction with High Street and Balmoral Road.
All work and road closures will be in place from 9am until 3.30pm each day.
Any work that runs over scheduled operating times will be done under temporary traffic lights or stop/go signs between 6pm and 11pm.
Work will be carried out in stages to minimise disruption.
- Boat Brae will be closed November 17, 18, 22 and 23. Work will extend from the bridge over the River Ericht to High Street
- Blairgowrie Bridge, Wellmeadow and Gas Brae will be closed November 20 and 21
- A section of Commercial Street will be closed near Angus Hotel on November 24
- Work on a section of pavement on Boat Brae between Haugh Road, and the bridge over the River Ericht will begin on November 28 and run until December 2. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.
Diversion route
Due to the road closures, diversions will be put in place.
- Boat Brae and Wellmeadow: Drivers will face a 16-mile diversion via the A926 Alyth Road, B954 to Meigle, A94 to Coupar Angus and up the A923 to Blairgowrie
- Boat Brae: The junction at Balmoral Road will be closed and drivers diverted via Hatton Road. A 20mph speed limit will be introduced on the diversion route and the traffic calming measures temporarily removed
- Wellmeadow and Commercial Street: Drivers will be diverted via Terminus Street and Back Brae. Traffic lights will be manually controlled during the closure times to minimise delays.
Bus services will be rerouted or replaced with shuttle services with passengers urged to check for updates online.
Access to the Wellmeadow car park will be suspended during the roadworks to accommodate buses to maintain services.
Meanwhile during the Commercial Street phase, some bus services will be redirected to temporary stops in Wellmeadow near Davidsons Chemist.
The council says vehicle access will be maintained where safe to do so, but locals are being warned to expect delays.
Pedestrians and emergency services will still have access throughout.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We would like to thank residents and motorists in advance for their patience and would apologise for any inconvenience during these works.”
