A Perthshire youngster who was airlifted to hospital when he was injured in a road accident which claimed the life of his sister has thanked the helicopter crew.
Sara and Steven Edwards lost their two-year-old daughter Harlow in an accident in Coupar Angus in October last year.
The Scone-based Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) tended to their other two injured children and the couple wanted to show their gratitude and thank the crew personally.
Accompanied by six-year-old son Leon, who was rushed to hospital by SCAA, they went to the air ambulance’s base to hand over £3,000 they had raised and to say “thank you”.
“We can’t thank SCAA enough for what they did for our children that day,” said Sara.
“We just wanted to give something back to help ensure they’re there for the next family that needs them.”
The Edwards family held a week-long charity shop and a prize bingo in Coupar Angus in aid of SCAA, raising £3,000.
Staff at Wellgate Medical Centre in Dundee – where Sara used to work – also boosted the family’s fundraising efforts with a further £445.50 and along with other donations meant nearly another £500 for SCAA.
Following the accident near Larghan Park in Coupar Angus local campaigners, backed by the Edwards, had been calling for road safety measures to be introduced.
Councillors have now backed a proposal to cut the speed limit on the A94 at Coupar Angus to 20mph.
Other measures are currently being considered including electronic signs and road markings.
In recent weeks safety campaigners had installed scarecrow police officers as an unofficial way of encouraging motorists to cut their speeds.
A 23-year-old man, Luke Pirie of Forfar, has appeared at Perth Sheriff Court accused of causing the death of the toddler by driving dangerously and causing injury to her 17-year-old sister and brother.
