A popular Perth restaurant is to remain open after being given an 11th-hour reprieve.

63 Tay Street was due to close at the end of this year after owner Graeme Pallister said he has been left “physically and mentally exhausted” by the challenges of hospitality in recent years.

The final straw was the announcement of an 11-month road closure he said would be the death knell for his business.

It has now been revealed the restaurant will be taken over by current manager Christopher Strachan.

New owner of 63 Tay Street in Perth ‘excited’ to take over

Christopher says he is excited to take over.

Announcing the news on the restaurant’s Facebook page, he said: “With the news recently of Graeme departing for pastures new, I’ll be taking on ownership of 63.

“We will be reopening as normal in the New Year after our winter closure for annual holidays.”

Christopher added: “The standard that guests have come to expect shall remain, with the interior of 63 retaining all of the charm and ambience that we all love

“I am looking forward to opening next year with a new chef in the kitchen with the same passion, drive, and hunger as myself, to take the food journey forward, and to continue the success and ethos that 63 has had for the past 22 years.”

“It is a great privilege for me to be able to take on this special restaurant, and I hope that I can count on the same support all of our loyal guests have given Graeme over the years”

The controversial road closure approved for next year has led to fears businesses on Tay Street will not survive.

The Scottish Water sewage repair works were approved by Perth and Kinross Council last week.
