Drivers will face disruption on the main road between Dundee and Perth for a week after roadworks planned for this weekend were extended.
Resurfacing work will be carried out on the Perth-bound section of the A90 between Millers of Glencarse, near Glendoick, and the Pow of Glencarse.
The work starts at 8pm on Friday and had been due to be completed by 6am on Monday.
But maintenance firm Amey has now announced that the work has been extended until 6am next Friday (December 2) because of “potential inclement weather”.
Some heavy rain is forecast for the region from Saturday afternoon and evening, but a Met Office forecast shows conditions on Sunday and into next week should remain dry.
Plans for contraflow and convoy system
A contraflow will be in place while the work is carried out at the weekend, with a convoy then in place overnight between Monday and Friday.
A statement from Amey said: “The end date of this scheme has been extended to take into account the forecast for potential inclement weather.
“The work will still commence on Friday November 25 and will now continue until Friday December 2.
“The weekend contraflow will operate between 7.30pm on Friday and 6.30am on Monday.
“Traffic management arrangements will then be in place overnight during the extension.
“There will be an overnight convoy working between 7.30pm and 6.30am from Monday November 28 to Thursday December 1, with traffic management removed by 6.30am on Friday December 2.”
A number of high-profile events are being staged in Dundee and Perth over the weekend, which could increase the likelihood of delays.
These include:
- Dundee Winterfest, which opens this weekend at Slessor Gardens.
- Perth Winter Festival’s St Andrew’s Day celebrations running over the weekend.
- A St Andrew’s Day-themed Dundee Hooley in the city centre on Saturday evening.
- The Proclaimers at the Caird Hall in Dundee on Saturday night.
- The Festival of Brass at Perth Concert Hall continues over the weekend.
Amey, which is doing the work on behalf of Transport Scotland, says it is the latest stage of improvements to the road surface and should reduce the need for more extensive work in future.
Last month, Amey carried out similar surface improvements between the Pow of Glencarse and the St Madoes bridge.
The junction for Leetown and Cottown will be closed during this weekend’s work, with access available via St Madoes and Errol.
