Olympian Eve Muirhead OBE has taken up a new role helping shape sport in Perth and Kinross.
The former curler has been appointed to the board of Live Active Leisure – which runs sports and leisure facilities across the area.
Included in the trust’s portfolio is the Dewars Centre, where Muirhead first took the ice at the start of an illustrious career that has seen her become one of the country’s most successful sportswomen.
Muirhead, who was awarded an OBE earlier this year, hopes the voluntary role will help her inspire the next generation of young athletes.
She says she has “long been a believer” in ensuring communities and young people can have affordable access to sport and fitness.
The Olympic gold medal-winner and Courier columnist said: “After the support I have received from Dewars Centre and Live Active Leisure in my career, I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Live Active board to support their aspirations to help everyone live active lives in Perth and Kinross.
I look forward to inspiring more young athletes to meet their goals

“I am particularly pleased to return to my sporting roots in Perth and look forward to inspiring more young athletes to meet their goals.”
David MacLehose, chair of the board of directors, says he is delighted by the appointment.
He said: “As a world-renowned athlete and ambassador for the benefits of taking part in sport from a young age, Eve is well-placed to work with us and the whole Live Active team to support the people of Perth and Kinross in their aspirations to live active lives.
“Her knowledge from curling across the globe will be invaluable in assisting LAL refining the design details of PH2O to attract curlers to international events in Perth.
“We also appreciate how busy Eve and all our directors are with their many work and personal commitments, so it is wonderful that she is able to make this commitment to her local leisure trust.”
