A burning car brought the A90 to a near standstill on Sunday as thick smoke shrouded both carriageways.
The Audi estate caught alight in a layby near to Longforgan, forcing its two female occupants to flee to safety.
As a fire crew arrived on the scene, shortly after 2pm, the vehicle was well alight and within minutes was a blackened shell.
Fortunately no-one was injured and the disruption was of relatively short duration, though drifting smoke did make for difficult driving conditions for a time.
Police units attended and motorists travelling in both directions were forced to slow as they passed the blaze.
