Police are continuing to make inquiries following a report that a teenager was seen on the parapet of the Queen’s Bridge in Perth on Monday evening.
A major search of the River Tay was launched around 8.45pm that evening after a member of public contacted the emergency services to state a young person was seen walking along the wall of the bridge, before being lost to view a short time later.
Personnel from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, RNLI and Police Scotland’s air support were all involved in the operation but it proved to be groundless.
On Tuesday, Inspector Kevin Chase said police are carrying out further inquiries into the matter and are keen to trace a person who was jogging near the Queen’s Bridge at the time of the incident.
“We are carrying out further inquiries following concerns from a member of the public that a young person was seen on the parapet of Queen’s Bridge in Perth at about 8.45pm on Monday,” he said.
“They were seen to walk along the wall before being lost to view a short time later.”
He continued: “The teenager is described as wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up and dark trousers.
“As our inquires continue today, we are particularly keen to trace a jogger who was wearing a red t-shirt with a white logo on the back, with dark coloured trousers who was seen to run past a person turning left off Queen’s Bridge on to Tay Street at about 8.45pm last night.
“Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any person at the Queen’s Bridge between 8.40pm and 9pm on Monday or anyone who has information that could assist with our inquiries, is asked to contact the police on 101.”
It’s understood no one has been reported missing.
