Perth Theatre’s first home-grown production following its £16.6 million revamp will be Aladdin, it has been revealed.
The production has been a closely-guarded secret, but Horsecross Arts unveiled the 2017 panto as it launched its summer season.
The Edwardian venue has been closed for the past three years, with its famed auditorium at the heart of a painstaking restoration and its exterior shrouded in scaffolding.
While the regeneration has taken place, the Perth Theatre team have kept theatre thriving by taking performances into the community.
Horsecross Arts say the newly launched summer programme will continue to take theatre to audiences in unexpected ways.
The summer programme was launched by Box Office assistant Laura Pennycook, who was plucked from the Perth Concert Hall sales counter to become the face of new production The 306: Day.
The follow up to The 306: Dawn, The 306: Day, in Perth’s Station Hotel focuses on the battles faced by the women at home while the First World War rages.
A drama about the Foot and Mouth crisis which ravaged the UK in 2001 drama will tour the country later this month.
And Then Come the Nightjars tours village halls and local arts venues from Cumbria to Crieff. Between April 19 and 26 it will feature at six different Perthshire venues.
Top acts including Nick Lowe, Loudon Wainwright III and Rodney Crowell are lining up to perform at the tenth Southern Fried Festival of American roots music in Perth Concert Hall and other city centre venues.
An all-star Southern Fried cast will join Andy Fairweather Low and The Hi Riders for Rock ‘n’ Roll Music: The Songs of Chuck Berry.
Passes for the festival go on sale on Friday April 21, with general ticket sales from Wednesday April 26.
Violinist Nicola Benedetti will open the Perth Festival of the Arts with an evening recital in Perth Concert Hall.
Young people take centre stage at the Youth Arts Festival in Perth Concert Hall and auditions are open for main parts for the Peter Pan Jr summer school with chorus spots open to all from age 5 to 18. Local dance schools join forces for the Great Big Dance Show, part of Perth Dance Festival.
