The A9 southbound carriageway has reopened between Broxden and Inveralmond following a collision.
The road was closed in both directions following what was described as a “police incident” shortly after 1pm on Wednesday.
The northbound carriageway reopened just before 6pm, the southbound carriageway reopening just before 8.15pm.
Drivers were being urged to find another route – with motorists reporting significant delays across the city and on the outskirts.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a collision on the A9 near Perth shortly after 1.20pm on Wednesday.
“The road is currently closed and officers remain at the scene.”
It has not been confirmed how many vehicles are involved.
Traffic was being diverted off the A9 southbound using the A85 slip.
