A closure-hit Perth barbers is set to reopen under a former staff member.
Badlands Barber on Methven Street will close at the end of this week after nine years in the Fair City.
But Brandon Mundo, who runs Deadset Studios on South Street, will move his business into the site at the start of next month.
Brandon used to cut hair in Badlands – owned by Grant George – before starting his own firm in 2021.
‘I’m super stoked’
The 27-year-old told The Courier: “I am proud to be moving in there and I’m super stoked, but I know it will be a lot of work.
“I’ve been looking to progress the business and this will be an amazing journey for us all.
“The day Grant decided to close, I bumped into him in the street and we started talking about it.
“He spoke to the landlord, he’s a lovely guy, and it was a no-brainer.
“I’ve grabbed this chance with both hands and have run with it – it’s all worked out really well.”
Brandon’s current shop is on the first floor with no direct street access.
He hopes having his own shop front will help boost custom – with a target opening date of March 1.
He added: “I’m so excited to have a shop directly on the street.
“The space we’re here at the moment is really hidden away – we haven’t been getting passing trade.
“We need somewhere to give Deadset Studios an HQ.”
‘Full-circle moment’
Grant announced earlier this month he is shutting Badlands Barber due to personal circumstances, as he focuses his attentions on his other shop in Glasgow.
Grant, 34, said: “When Brandon came along he was still new to the game, and we hit it off.
“It’s nice to be able to hand it back to him and let him take his business to the next level.
“The shop is in a great location for a barbershop and it will do him a world of good.
“This is a full-circle moment for him, he gets to have his own place where it all started in Perth.”
