The biggest shock of the morning at the Perth and Kinross Council count came with the Strathtay result.
There were audible gasps around Bells Sports Centre when it was announced long-standing SNP councillor John Kellas had not been re-elected.
Conservative candidates Ian James and Anne Jarvis triumphed in the ward, alongside the SNP’s Grant Laing.
Mr Kellas, who was convener of the enterprise and infrastructure committee, said the vote appeared to be based on national issues and did not represent the way Perth and Kinross Council had moved on it recent years.
“I’m extremely disappointed I will not be around to see the council’s developments and projects going forward,” he said.
