Perth Racecourse looks set to attract bumper crowds with two events taking place next week, one  which will feature fashion guru and stylist Gok Wan.

The back-to-back meetings continue the racing season at the venue with On-Course Bookmakers Evening on Wednesday, followed by the most glamorous event of the Perth calendar – Ladies Day – on Thursday.

Bookmakers Evening is regarded as ideal for novice racegoers, students and experienced punters alike. With tickets on sale for just £5, racing rookies can chance their beginners luck and be guided through the competitive card of jump racing by Perth’s resident ‘race day’ presenter Jim Delahunt.

The class four £10,000 Handicap Hurdle is certain to be the racing highlight of the night. The evening meeting also promises a lively party atmosphere, a host of local produce, including a selection of artisan ales and craft beers from Perthshire breweries.

Celebrity stylist Gok Wan has been lined-up to crown the best dressed lady and award her a £2,000 cash prize at the annual summer Ladies Day on Thursday. He will also be bringing his popular Fashion Brunch Club to the racecourse for VIP guests to enjoy.

The stylist to the stars will share his insider know-how and industry secrets, as well as showcase the latest spring and summer trends in a fashion show.

Ladies are also urged to dawn their finest fascinators and headpieces, as there will also be a prize for the best hat. Fashion conscious gents will be in with the chance of scooping a prize too, with the best dressed male given an award.

Hazel Peplinksi, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said: “Year on year, our Ladies Day continues to attract an enthusiastic crowd who really do dress to impress. Our VIP tickets have completely sold out, and we are looking forward to welcoming our stylish guests to the track.

“Our best dressed lady is the biggest best dressed cash prize in Scotland, and we are thrilled that Gok Wan will be doing the honours and crowning this year’s winner.”

There will also be live entertainment throughout the day, with Tay FM’s Stuart Webster hosting the main stage.

Tickets for the Bookmakers Evening are priced at £5. Gates open at 4.30pm and the first race is scheduled for 6.05pm, with the last race taking place at 9.05pm.

Ladies Day grandstand tickets are available at £25 and are selling fast. Gates open at 11.30am.

The first race is scheduled for 2pm, with the last race taking place at 5.20pm.

The racing calendar kicked-off in April with the Perth Festival.
