Perth’s Fair City Rollers came up short against TV’s Eggheads – but refused to rule out another crack at quiz show glory.
Wendy Miller, Amy Mowat, Jennifer Clyde-McMaster and Gail Stirling Robertson from the roller derby team appeared on the Channel 5 programme – hosted by Jeremy Vine – on Monday night.
But they failed to upstage Britain’s top quizzers when, in the final round, they did not know Antonio Conte had managed English Premier League teams Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Wendy, 49 – a farm administrator from Kinrossie – told The Courier: “We had a fantastic trip together. We were very nervous but also excited.
“I think I speak for the team when I say we were more nervous when we were told our episode air date.
‘Eggheads impressive’
“We were so well looked after during the day and the production staff were great at putting us at ease.
“The Eggheads were impressive but also really nice. It was an experience we’ll never forget, enjoyed by us all.
“Would we do it again? We do toy with the idea when we see other quiz shows – who knows!”
The episode was filmed in Elstree Studios, Hertfordshire, in September 2022.
And the trip gave the group the chance to see artist Gail’s ‘World Reimagined’ installation in Lambeth which was part of a national art project.
Wendy, who has played for Fair City Rollers for seven years, said: “I saw Eggheads were looking for teams on Facebook and messaged our team chat to see if anyone fancied going on it.
“We thought we could maybe win something to help with the running costs of the team.”
Fair City Rollers were established in 2009 and have around 30 members.
Training takes place once a week in Bells Sport Centre, with outdoor skates when weather permits.
Fair City play their second post-Covid home game – which will be open to spectators – on April 30 at Bells.
