Talented Perth vocalists will have a chance to raise their voices in celebration after Sing in the City revealed the home of its 12th Scottish choir.
The organisation has enjoyed huge success in Edinburgh, Fife and West Lothian where its 11 existing choirs now number more than 700 members.
Now a brand new choir will launch next month, with the first meeting taking place at Perth North Church on June 29, between 7pm and 9pm.
It will be open to anyone interested in singing, with no audition necessary.
Interest in choirs has been growing in recent years thanks to the success of television programmes such as the BBC’s BAFTA award winning show The Choir.
Choirmaster Gareth Malone’s attempts to teach choral music to people with little singing experience have shown the impact the pastime can have on mental and physical health.
And Sing in the City founder Kirsty Baird hopes to see singers in Perth and the surrounding area enjoy the same benefits.
She said: “My aim is to provide a safe, welcoming and friendly environment where people can come together to sing, laugh, and make friends.
“What makes Sing in the City special is that it’s more than just a choir as members are involved in lots of social and charitable activities too.
“Singers from across the choirs regularly get together for events as diverse as a Mad Hatters Tea Party, to pool nights, walks, cycles and the traditional end of term pub nights.
“So watch out as you might find yourself not just getting better at singing but also joining in with a loonie dook or an abseil from the Forth Bridge!”
Sing in the City has helped to raise raised £67K for local charities since it was launched.
It’s been a busy 12 months for the group’s existing choirs, with the Cloud 9 choir from Kirkcaldy enjoying their first sell-out show at the Adam Smith Theatre.
Managing Directors Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley, meanwhile, have been nominated for a Mary Leishman foundation Kingdom FM Local Hero Award because of the difference they have made to people’s lives by bringing Sing in the City to Fife.
