The man accused of urinating on the office door of Perthshire MP John Nicolson insists he will seek legal advice.
Douglas McNab, who claims he is innocent, says he has been “stood down” by his employers over the controversy that has erupted on social media this week.
Mr Nicolson was sent a picture of the incident on Twitter, with the caption: “And here’s me p***ing on his other office door.”
The Ochil and South Perthshire politician then claimed – in a post now deleted – to have unmasked the supposed troll and his alleged employers.
But the firm’s CEO later told The Courier: “I am not condoning what the guy has done and if it is an employee of ours I would not be happy at all.
“But I don’t believe the evidence shown online is anything more than speculation.”
Speaking on Thursday, Mr McNab told us he left the company six weeks ago and had since started work elsewhere.
His new employers, he claims, are now investigating the furore.
‘I need my name cleared’
The 56-year-old, from Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, said: “People on the internet say the guy in the picture looks like me, but it looks nothing like me.
“It is impossible because it has nothing to do with me at all.
“I need this cleared up, I need my name cleared.
“I have had my previous employer on the phone and I have been stood down from my own employer until this has all calmed down.
“This is a false accusation.”
Mr McNab – who says he is “not big on social media” – was unaware of the storm brewing on Twitter until he was made aware of it by his daughter.
He claims Mr Nicolson has tried to reach out to him to discuss the issue but says talks with the politician will not take place until he has spoken to a lawyer.
Mr McNab added: “It is a shock to me and it is spiralling.
“The impact on me has been significant.”
The Courier has contacted Mr Nicolson and Police Scotland for comment.
‘Staff have enough to put up with’
On Wednesday, the politician said he had a duty to protect his staff from “revolting” behaviour and that he was passing details of the incident – said to have taken place at his old office in Kirkintilloch – to police.
He moved to his current Alloa base in 2018 but the images only surfaced this week.
Mr Nicolson thinks the snaps were posted online due to “anti-SNP sentiment”, with a barrage of abuse aimed at him in recent days also playing a part.
He said: “This is immensely unpleasant for staff and I feel I need to protect them from this revolting behaviour.
“I am concerned he is proudly boasting about urinating on my office when my staff have enough to put up with.”
