Burger King and Starbucks could be set to open new restaurants in Perth.
The American fast food chain – famed for its Whopper burger – and the coffee retailer are among the businesses that would move into a development planned for land near the Broxden services.
If approved, a third drive-thru will also be built as part of the development – but no retailers have yet been identified for that unit.
Space for other businesses and electric vehicle charging bays would also be included.
It would create an estimated 78 jobs in the cafe and restaurant units when complete, more would be created through the business units when they are established.
The development would also support about 26 jobs during construction, off-site manufacturing and on-site assembly.
Initial details for the development emerged last August, but now developer Drysdale Holdings has submitted full plans to Perth and Kinross Council.
The proposals are separate from others put forward earlier this month for more drive-thrus on land nearby.
The area around Broxden Roundabout, just off the M90 and A9, is already home to a McDonald’s, Travelodge, Harvester and a petrol station with a Subway restaurant inside.
On the opposite side of the roundabout there is a park and ride and a Costa drive-thru.
Burger King’s last Perth home was in St Catherine’s Retail Park.
The restaurant closed in 2008 and Frankie and Benny’s moved into the unit not long after.
The American diner then closed in 2020 and Tim Hortons opened in its place in August 2021.
Starbucks already has two other outlets in Perth – one in the city centre and one at Inveralmond.
Broxden plans to be considered by Perth and Kinross Council
The 14 business units planned as part of the development would be housed in one building in the southern part of the site.
Drysdale Holdings is owned by Thomas Drysdale, who also owns the city’s Drysdale Motorcycles.
A statement submitted to the council on behalf of the firm says the site would be split into two “platforms” with the drive-thrus on the lower part, facing Broxden Avenue.
Thomas Drysdale said: “It is my hope that this development will contribute to the existing thriving economy surrounding Broxden Roundabout in Perth. I have already secured Starbucks, Burger King and SSE as vendors and look forward to engaging further with the local community and Perth and Kinross Council.
“The people of Perth have always been very supportive of my motor dealership, and so I am pleased to invest further in the local area.”
A decision will be made on the planning application by Perth and Kinross Council in the coming months.
