Detectives hunting jewellery thieves who raided the Gleneagles Hotel have rolled out their search across the UK.
Police Scotland made a nationwide appeal for information on Friday, 10 days on from the robbery at the five-star establishment near Auchterarder.
They have confirmed for the first time that firearms were used to hold up staff at the hotel’s Mappin and Webb boutique.
And investigators say the value of the designer watches stolen was more than £500,000.
Detecive Chief Inspector Andy Patrick said at least two cars were used in the robbery. A blue Audi was recovered near the hotel, and a Range Rover was found burnt out in Glasgow.
The vehicles were stolen weeks in advance from two locations in England.
DCI Patrick said that a sledgehammer used to smash display cases may be key to their inquiry.
