Tens of thousands of music fans will start arriving at Scone Palace today for Perthshire’s biggest music festival.

Rewind Scotland takes that honour following the demise of T in the Park, with more than 30,000 people expected over the weekend.

The final preparations are being made for the 2017 Rewind Festival.

Dedicated to celebrating the decade that style forgot, the 1980s, the event attracts an audience who grew up to the music and who turn out in force to see their musical idols.

Over the seven years it has been held at Scone, the event has grown into a huge party with many of the revellers entering into the spirit by dressing up in garish garb, caricaturing the fashions of the time.

The dedicated campers start arriving today to get the weekend off to flying start before the big names take to the stage.

The Saturday night headliners are The Human League, while the Sunday night main spot is taken by past festival favourite Billy Ocean.

Paul Carey, general manager of Rewind Festival, said: “As always at Rewind Scotland there’s something for everyone.

“Having grown up in the 1980s I’m personally looking forward to Saturday’s performance from Soul II Soul, who were most certainly the soundtrack to my teenage years.”

Provost Dennis Melloy welcomed the festival’s return to Perthshire and the economic boost it brings.

“It is hugely popular with all ages. It is a wonderful event for local business,” he said.

Councillor Colin Stewart, council convener of environment, enterprise and infrastructure and a local member for Strathmore added: “Rewind is a really great event – now firmly established at Scone Palace – which attracts many loyal fans and shows off the vibrancy and diversity of our local cultural scene.”

Making their Rewind Scotland debuts this year are Tom Robinson, The Undertones, The Trevor Horn Band Junior Marvin’s Wailers, Musical Youth and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.

Jaki Graham, Joy Division’s Peter Hook, Owen Paul, Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Claudia Brucken will appear with super-group British Electric Foundation.

Performances from Level 42, Belinda Carlisle, Heather Small, Nik Kershaw, Go West, Chesney Hawkes, T’Pau, The Real Thing, Soul II Soul, Kim Wilde, Nick Heyward, Jason Donovan and Dr & The Medics complete the line-up.

Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for the weather but the forecast is for some rain on both days.
