Perth and Kinross Council has moved to allay road safety fears after the resignation of a crossing patroller on a busy road on the first day of the school term.
The local authority has stressed it will be working with Tayside Contracts to help recruit a replacement after Perth High School announced the worker quit their post on Tuesday.
The crossing patroller covered the Glasgow Road area and a post on the Perth High School website states the role will not be covered for the “foreseeable future.”
The area was the scene of an accident in January 2016 when a teenage pupil was hit by a van.
On Tuesday, a council spokesperson said; “The school crossing patrol service provided by Tayside Contracts on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council in approved locations is aimed at supporting local communities.
“The council will continue to work with Tayside Contracts to help with the recruitment of school crossing patrollers where possible.”
