A Perthshire cinema group which gives film fans the chance to see little-known and cult movies on the big screen has hand-picked some international gems for its new season.
On Thursday, the Perth Film Society will start a seven-week run at Perth Concert Hall.
The autumn line-up features recent award-winners from across the globe.
It kicks off with Julieta, described as Spanish director Pedro Almodovar’s best work in a decade.
The certificate 15-feature is based on three stories by Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro and focusses on a Madrid women’s chance encounter an old family friend, which dramatically changes the direction of her life.
Julieta, which was nominated for a Bafta, opens the society’s programme on Thursday, September 7 from 7.45pm.
Other films selected by the society include the highly acclaimed A United Kingdom, starring David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike.
It tells the enduring love story of Seretse Khama, King of Botswana, and Ruth Williams, the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families.
On week three, the society will show renowned German comedy Toni Erdmann. The film – at 162 minutes, the longest on the list – follows the misadventures of a practical joker dad, as he tries to reconnect with his daughter.
Eleswhere, the society will bring to the big screen Persian Oscar-winner The Salesman and French drama Things to Come, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
In November, the season draws to a close with gripping Romanian drama Graduation (Bacalaureat) and Sweet Dreams by Italian film-maker Marco Bellocchio.
