Emergency services responding to a report of a person in the River Tummel near Clunie Power Station were stood down within the hour.
Units of Scottish Fire and Rescue from Dunkeld and Aberfeldy attended and water rescue boat teams from Perth and Stirling had also been sent to the scene.
The call was received at 2.42pm on Sunday but Scottish Fire and Rescue said the person had safely got out of the water without their aid.
Police Scotland said that the initial report had been that a rafter had got into difficulties on that stretch of the river and was in the water.
However although the water rescue teams were summoned they were not required to assist.
The man was able to make his way from the river to safety and although uninjured was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for a check up.
