Forecasters have warned that a downpour may bring “localised flooding” to parts of Tayside and Fife today.
A Met Office yellow warning for rain has been in place since midnight and will remain in force until 3pm.
The rain is expected in hilly regions of Perthshire and parts of Fife, but is not predicted to come as far as Dundee.
A Met Office statement said: “Persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected, especially over the hills. There is a chance of localised flooding and standing water on roads leading to longer journey times.”
Its chief forecaster added: “A band of rain will linger over western Scotland through Wednesday morning before slowly clearing southwards.
“Many places will see 20-30 mm of rain whilst isolated 50 mm of rain is possible over the hills.”
The Strathclyde region is also affected by the weather warning.
