Two people were rushed to hospital and motorists faced three hours of “huge” delays following a four-vehicle pile-up on the A9.
A southbound section of the busy road was closed following the crash near Braco at about 3pm.
The incident caused hours of traffic delays which motorists described as “huge”, with others warning to “avoid” the area.
Police, the fire and rescue service and paramedics were called to the scene.
An HGV, silver Ford Transit, red Ford Focus and a fourth vehicle were involved.
Three people were treated at the scene and two were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, however their injuries are not believed to be serious.
Three fire and rescue appliances – from Alloa, Bridge of Allan and Doune – were called to the incident.
A heavy rescue unit was also called from Perth, but was told to turn back before arriving as it wasn’t required.
An ambulance spokesman said: “We received a call at 3.10pm on Thursday, November 9 to attend a road traffic collision on the A9 at Braco.
“We dispatched three ambulances, two special operations teams and one manager to the scene.
“Two patients were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.”
A police spokesman said: “It came into us at 2.56pm. There is quite a bit of a tailback there. There is a recovery en route but I think they are being slowed by the traffic.
“The fire service is in attendance and so is the ambulance. There was four vehicles, but no serious injuries, just whiplash. There was three casualties with minor injuries.
“The southbound road was closed.”
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We received the call from the police at 3.01pm. An HGV vehicle collided with a flatbed vehicle and a car.
“All pedestrians were recovered from their vehicles prior to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s arrival.
“We just made the scene safe.”
Both lanes on the southbound A9 were closed until 4.20pm to allow for vehicle recovery, after which one lane was reopened.
The road was fully reopened at 6pm.

Earlier Traffic Scotland said: “Lane one (of two) is closed on the A9 south after Balhaldie due to a road traffic incident.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution on approach and should be aware of delays to journey times.”
