The police watchdog has been called in to investigate after a missing teenager and a man sustained injuries inside a police van in Perth.
The pair were said to have sustained knife injuries after they were put into the police vehicle at the conclusion of a high-profile missing person search on Monday.
Stuart Lymer, 45, and the 17-year-old female, who cannot be named, have been receiving treatment in Ninewells Hospital.
They have been arrested in connection with the incident and are expected to appear in court over the coming days, after being released from hospital.
The teenager had been reported missing from her home in Cannock, Staffordshire, and police traced her and Lymer in Perth on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Following an incident on Monday March 5 within a police vehicle in Perth, a 45-year-old man and 17-year-old woman have been arrested.
“Both are currently undergoing treatment at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee as a result of injuries sustained during the incident at Perth.
“They are expected to appear at court from custody over the coming days, after being released from the hospital.
“Police Scotland has referred the matter to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.”
