A burning lorry forced the closure of the busy A9, near Blair Atholl.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 3pm on Tuesday.
Firefighters used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
A fire service spokeswoman said the fire was contained to the rear of the lorry, which was used to transport plastic piping.
The incident was brought under control just before 4pm and both carriageways were re-opened shortly afterwards.
The lorry driver had pulled his vehicle into a layby before the fire started. He is said to have escaped unharmed.
