Mountain bike festival Cream o’ the Croft will return to Perthshire this summer and organisers have promised a slew of activities for non-cyclists to get involved as well.

The programme has been revealed for this year’s three-day festival at Comrie Croft.

Cyclists will have the 100-mile ‘Breadalbane 160′ to look forward to and the main event for riders will be the Cream o’ the Croft Enduro race – a multi-stage run using every inch of Comrie Croft’s mountain bike trail network.

Among the off-bike highlights are yoga and well-being workshops, live music, a water slide, steel band workshops, trail running coaching, circus workshops, Segway tours and a rodeo bull.

In celebration of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, organisers Muckmedden Events have planned attractions for the younger attendees, such as the inaugural Monster Balance Bike Challenge.

The competition, a collaboration between the organisers and several Scottish bike recycling centres, gives young people the chance to design and build a monster balance bike. They will then compete against each other but it will not only be about speed, as they will also be scored on their ingenuity and imagination before they’ve even set off.

Aaron Gray, of Muckmedden Events, said: “I think we have done a great job in highlighting the best of Cream o’ the Croft, a weekend festival of fun and frolics for all the family both on and off the bike.

“It is based largely around the four great tenets of mountain biking, the great outdoors, music and ‘consumption of deliciousness’.

“Add in to the mix an award-winning campsite, hostel and mountain bike trail centre, beautiful surroundings, family friendliness and great activities for all ages, and you get the rough idea of what to expect.”

Andrew Donaldson, of Comrie Croft, said: “We’re totally chuffed that young folk are involved in organising and promoting various new additions to the festival, some of which are completely crazy.

“The programme might be loaded, but it’ll be the same family friendly atmosphere and welcome to all that the festival has become known for, whether you are into bikes or not.”

The festival takes place during the weekend of June 15 to 17. Tickets, and race entry details, are available at www.muckmedden.co.uk/our-events/cream-o-the-croft/.
