One of the “firm favourites” of the racing calendar at Perth looks like heading towards a sell-out.

Ladies Day at Perth Racecourse is on May 17 and organisers of the glamorous event anticipate beating the crowd of 5,000, seen on the final day of the Perth Festival last week.

VIP tickets have already sold out, with other tickets selling well.

Ladies Day will support Breast Cancer Now and see dance duo Lovely Laura and DJ Ben Santiago take to the main stage once the racing is finished.

Prior to that, Scottish band Carbon Copy will play on the VIP stage from 5.30pm.

Hazel Peplinski, chief executive of Perth Racecourse, said the three-day Perth Festival saw ticket sales increase by 31% on last year and “set the bar high” for the rest of the season.

“We’re now all really looking forward to Ladies Day – another firm favourite of the Perth calendar – which attracts an enthusiastic crowd who really do dress to impress,” she said.

“Our VIP tickets have already completely sold out, and with other tickets selling well we can’t wait to welcome another big Perth crowd of stylish guests to the track.”

And Mrs Peplinksi praised course staff for their “tireless” efforts in ensuring the surface was “fit” for the Perth Festival following a “long and tough” winter.

Ladies Day will follow the Hoteliers Race Night, which will be held on May 16. This event will feature seven great races including the feature race – The Salutation Hotel Handicap Hurdle.

Doors will open for Ladies Day at 11.30am, with the first race beginning at 2pm.

Grandstand tickets cost £25, with grandstand concessions selling for £20.
