A 96-year-old man was the victim of a tragic road accident on the A9 in Perthshire on Tuesday.
The main arterial route was closed for hours after three vehicles collided near Dunkeld.
Police have now confirmed the person who died was an elderly man. Five other people were taken to hospital.
Police are appealing for any eyewitnesses to get in touch.
A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland along with other emergency services attended at the A9 near to Dunkeld yesterday at 2.30pm after reports of a road traffic collision.
“A 96-year-old man sadly died. Next of kin have been made aware.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
The spokesperson continued: “The northbound and southbound carriageway were closed to allow investigations surrounding the collision to be carried out.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting 1994 of 22 May.”
The A9 was reopened at around 8.30pm.
