Two of Perth’s most popular sports swung together for the city’s second golf race day.

After a successful debut last year, Golf Perthshire Raceday returned to Scone, bringing together putters and punters alike.

There were seven competitive races, each sponsored by a different Perthshire golf club, with prize money totalling £70,000.

Hazel Peplinksi, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said: “As an avid golfer myself, it’s great to bring together two of the country’s finest sports, helping to showcase horseracing to a whole new audience and vice versa.

“It’s particularly apt that the meeting takes place during Women and Girls Golf Week and we’re thrilled to work with Golf Perthshire, a like-minded organisation who are just as keen to support diversity within their sport.”

As well as the sports, attendees enjoyed a sampling event hosted by Crieff-based Famous Grouse.

Allan Minto, project manager at Golf Perthshire, said: “It was a pleasure working with Perth Racecourse last year to bring this event to life and it’s exciting to be back for 2018.

“The Open Championship in Carnoustie brought us another outstanding tournament earlier this month, so there’s no better time to host our unique golf-themed meeting.”

The end of this year’s race season is fast approaching, with Perth Racecourse’s summer carnival, which marks the last weekend of the season, takes place on Saturday August 18.

The event sold out last year and is expected to have similar success later this month.
