A group of car fans will take on a 1,200-mile road trip across Europe this week – in four bangers with a collective age of 48.
The Caledonian Kings, made up of seven men from Perthshire and Angus, will set off on Wednesday in the old vehicles, each of which is worth only a little more than £500.
They are taking part in the Two Ball Banger Rally, travelling across nine countries in four days, in aid of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).
It is the second time four of the group have taken on the challenge, after raising £3,5000 for the same cause two years ago.
And the team have already smashed that amount this year, clocking up £4,700 so far.
One of the team, Iain Appleby from Alyth, said: “The air ambulance relies purely on donations and you never know when any of us could need it so we decided to raise money for it again.
“We’re really looking forward to it, we just want to get on the road now.”
Also taking part are the rest of the original group, Martin Arnold, also from Alyth, Scott Shaw from Perth and David Robertson from Monikie, along with newbies Dougie Watts from Blairgowrie, Mark Hennessy from Perth and Paul Robertson from Monikie.
One condition of the rally is cars cannot be worth more than £560 so the men will be travelling in an 18-year-old Volkswagen Golf, a 16-year-old Vauxhall Omega and a 14-year-old BMW 320d.
The rally starts in Dover and runs through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Monte Carlo before finishing back in France.
It is not a race but competitors pick up points for performance in “outrageous” daily challenges given by organisers.
Iain said: “We had such a great laugh the last time and we know what to expect from it now.
“We were a bit worried that the Omega wasn’t going to make it but we had some work done on it and it’s running well again.”
