A minister is in Perth this week to meet members of the gypsy traveller community.
Christina McKelvie, whose government brief includes equalities, is set to discuss issues and challenges facing the ethnic group on Tuesday.
The SNP MSP has spoken out against high levels of discrimination suffered by the community and has led an inquiry into public perception.
A Scottish Social Attitudes Survey last year found that more than a third (34%) believe that a gypsy / traveller is “unsuitable” to be a primary school teacher.
A year ago Ms McKelvie, who represents Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, condemned remarks by Tory MP Douglas Ross, who said “tougher enforcement against gypsies and travellers” would be his first priority if he became Prime Minister.
