One of Scotland’s most popular summer shows has celebrated its 150th anniversary.
The Birnam Highland Games, home of the World Champion Haggis Eating Competition, drew visitors and competitors from across the globe.
Crowds at the Little Dunkeld park were kept entertained with a bustling programme of traditional heavy events such as caber tossing and sledge hammer throwing.
Stuart Anderson, from Lochearnhead, scooped all three top prizes including the Ian Lamb Memorial Trophy and Bob Shilliday Cup.
There was also a range of piping, dancing and track and field events.
The Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band opened the show with a procession from the centre of Dunkeld.
Chieftain Thomas Steuart Fothringham said: “Whether watching the heavyweight competition or going to the fairground, I have many happy memories of the Games from my childhood.
“The Games have been a high point of the year in Birnam for nearly one and a half centuries, and continue to go from strength to strength. This is thanks largely to the year-round efforts of a dedicated committee, for whose hard work we are all grateful.”
He added: “Apart from supporting the committee’s work, it is my great pleasure to welcome all visitors and competitors, many of whom come from abroad.
“Everyone’s support is much appreciated and will hopefully ensure that the games continue for at least another 150 years.”
The games were previously held in Dunkeld, until the sixth Duke of Atholl’s death in 1864.
The show was cancelled as a show of respect to the family, but a group of local men decided to hold games in neighbouring Birnam.
These proved so successful that they eclipsed the original Dunkeld Games, which came to an end in 1872.
It is thought that the first meetings of the Birnam Games Committee were held in the shadow of the Birnam Oak, one of the last surviving trees of the woodland made famous in Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
