Pupils at a highland Perthshire school have been offered counselling after one of their classmates was knocked down by a car, moments after stepping off a bus.
The accident happened at Camserney, near Dull, Aberfeldy, on Tuesday afternoon.
The senior Breadalbane Academy student was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance. The 15-year-old was said to be conscious and speaking to paramedics after the incident.
Police said he suffered a head injury. The drama was witnessed by pupils on the bus.
The youngster is understood to be on the mend and was due to be released from hospital on Wednesday.
A post on the school’s Facebook page stated: “We are delighted to say that our senior pupil who was involved in a road accident yesterday will be discharged from hospital later today.
“Our whole campus community has been given a huge lift by this news and we wish him a very speedy recovery.”
A Perth and Kinross Council spokeswoman added: “The thoughts of the council and the Breadalbane Academy school community are with the pupil and their family for a speedy recovery after yesterday’s incident.
“We can confirm that arrangements were made to transport the other pupils on the bus safely home afterwards, and that support is being made available at the school for any pupils who have been affected by what happened. We would also like to thank the emergency services for their rapid response.”
A spokesman for Breadalbane Academy Parent Council confirmed on social media that the boy was injured after stepping off the school bus at Camserney.
“The headteacher has confirmed that the ‘pupil was conscious and talking to paramedics’ and has been taken to hospital,” he said. “Designated staff will be available (on Wednesday) in both primary and secondary to provide support to any pupils who may require it.
“Thoughts are with the student’s family.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We attended at the B846 in the village of Dull near Aberfeldy at 4pm on Tuesday, following a road traffic collision involving a 15 year old pedestrian and a car.
“The boy was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment for a head injury, which is not thought to be life threatening. Enquiries are continuing.”
Local independent councillor Xander McDade commented: “Our thoughts must be with the student and their family and hope for a speed recovery.
“I spoke to Mr John Devine, headteacher, about the incident and he reassured me that the school will have support available to students affected.
“Any parent with concerns should contact the school directly to discuss these.”
