His family has been told about the discovery, police said. However, the body has still to be formally identified.
An extensive search operation was carried out in the Glen Lednock area, a few miles from the Mr Foster’s home.
Police Scotland described Mr Foster as a keen walker who was known to frequent popular beauty spots around the Perthshire village, including Glen Lednock.
Officers also searched other areas where he was known to have enjoyed walking, including the Deil’s Cauldron, Glen Chonzie, and Glen Glenartney.
Hillwalkers and farmers had been urged to get involved in the search and report any sightings.
Police focused their efforts on the Glen Lednock area. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers can sadly confirm that the body of a man has been found during the search for missing person Richard Foster, from Comrie.
