Perth outdoor clothing company has £40,000 worth of stock taken in raid

Tiso in Perth was hit by thieves.
Tiso in Perth was hit by thieves.

Thieves escaped with £40,000 worth of high-end gear in a raid on an outdoor clothing store.

Two hundred jackets were stolen from the Tiso unit at Perth’s Inveralmond retail park.

North Face, Berghaus and RAB were among the labels targeted.

The break-in is the latest in a series at outdoors activities bases across Perth and Kinross.

Police are appealing for information and urging anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Inveralmond area in the early hours of Saturday to come forward.

Tiso said it did not want to comment on the raid, which happened between midnight and 2.30am.

It’s understood the company, whose headquarters are based in Edinburgh, has started to pull stock from other branches to try to cover for the loss.

SNP Councillor for Perth City North, Dave Doogan, said the break-in was concerning for local businesses.

“Inveralmond is an extremely important area of employment in Perth,” he said.

“It very much is a concern.

“We do benefit from historically low crime rates but that is not a crumb of comfort for the people here.

“This is not a victim-less crime. Businesses can’t afford this type of loss.

“It’s very difficult for the businesses even if they are insured.

“We all know that once you make an insurance claim then your premium goes up.”

The break-in comes after thieves made off with two safes, as well as money and car keys, from the Land Rover Experience Scotland in Dunkeld in October.

Two men wearing ski masks or balaclavas were seen on CCTV.

Police said they believed the raid was linked to another break-in at the base of outdoor activity company Nae Limits at Ballinluig earlier in the day.

Nothing was taken, however the site was left badly damaged.

In late August, Crieff Golf Club and its professional shop was one of a number of golf courses targeted throughout the country.

Chainsaws, a metal detector and sportswear, worth £2,000, were stolen from the venue.

At the time, a club professional said around 20 clubs had been targeted in Scotland.

Anyone with information on the Tiso incident is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
