A puppy belonging to the woman who tragically died in a car crash on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park at the weekend has been traced after a police appeal.
Police had asked for information regarding the female black Labrador puppy, Blu, owned by a woman who died in a car crash south of Glenshee at the weekend.
Officers were called out to the road near Glenisla on Sunday, January 27, following the report of a single vehicle road traffic accident at 12.30am.
A Kia Sorento motorcar had left the road on the B951 Cray to Brewlands Bridge Road, near to the A93 at Lair.
The vehicle’s only occupant, a female driver aged 64 who was from Midlothian, sadly died at the scene and the woman’s family have been made aware. Police have not yet named the victim.
Crash investigators were in attendance and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Following the collision, Police Scotland asked members of the public who stayed nearby to keep a look out for the woman’s dog, spotted at the scene of the crash.
The police appeal had already been shared over 1,000 times on social media within just 12 hours of the appeal being launched as local people backed the campaign to track down the missing pup.
And now that the good news has reached the woman’s loved ones, thanks are being paid to those who helped find Blu.
Beth Thompson, a friend of the woman said: “I’ve just been told I’m crying with happiness. A huge thank you to everyone for their search efforts, I’m amazed and truly grateful at the community efforts and so are the family.”
“My friend who died in the accident would be so happy her dogs are safe, they were her world.”
Also backing the appeal was Dog Friendly Perthshire, and owner Katie McCandless Thomas knows that finding Blu will bring some comfort to the woman’s family.
The organisation were made aware on Monday morning that the puppy had made its way to a nearby house and the owners had taken it, safe and well, to a nearby vets to get checked over.
She said: “The circumstances are very sad and the fact that the woman’s dog was missing must have brought more upset and worry to her family.
“The fact that Blu has been found will bring some relief to the family and is a bit of good news to come out of something so tragic.
“My thoughts and love are with Blu’s family and friends though at this very sad and difficult time.”
