A 10-day festival celebrating the achievements of women will take place in Perth next month.

The Perth and Kinross Women’s Festival will take place from March 1 to 10 with a host of events highlighting the lives of extraordinary and inspiring women like Marie Curie and Margaret Morris.

The festival will also hold a ‘Come and Try Golf’ session at North Inch Golf Course to celebrate the Solheim Cup coming to Gleneagles, a charity Rock Choir concert, Scottish Country Dancing and yoga among a range of activities taking place in Perth and Scone.

The Perth and Kinross Women’s Festival is run by the Be Yourself Group who have organised Perth’s International Women’s Day celebrations since 1997.

In 2015 the group began Perth’s Women’s Festival and host the event alongside a number of partner’s, putting together a programme of practical workshops, physical activities, talks and film screenings all designed to inspire and celebrate women.

Wilma McCullough, spokesperson for Be Yourself Group, said: “There’s a good number of activities throughout the week and we just encourage people to check out the website or get a brochure and see what’s on and to come along and enjoy themselves.

“We’re working with all these partners to get a range of activities throughout the week.

“There’s quite a few good things on this year that we would encourage people to come along to.”

Wilma said she would particularly like people to attend the Rock Choir concert on March 8 at St Matthew’s Church as it’s for charity.

The concert has been organised by the Soroptimist International (SI) Perth and the money raised will go towards their chosen charities including Playlist for Life.

Playlist for Life  was formed by Sally Magnusson and aims to help those with dementia connect with their friends and family through the power of music.

The festival launch took place in the Fergusson Gallery on Tuesday evening.
