A team scouting locations for a new Lord of the Rings TV show have been exploring Perthshire as a possible filming location, according to reports.
The blockbuster prequel series based on JRR Tolkien’s legendary fantasy novels is being produced by Amazon, with the budget reportedly in excess of $1 billion.
And according to The Scotsman, location scouts are said to have visited a number of beauty spots across Scotland as they seek out the prime double for Middle Earth.
They are said to have posed as tourists while touring the country last summer.
Perthshire is among the places reportedly visited, with the scouts apparently taking a trip to Callander.
Skye, Dunskey Castle, Scourie and Balloch Country Park are also said to have been explored by the team.
Peter Jackson’s classic Lord of the Rings film trilogy, which garnered a raft of Oscars, was shot in the filmmaker’s home country of New Zealand.
The TV show is expected to air in 2021.
It is expected to explore Middle Earth prior to the events depicted in the Lord of the Rings films.
Courier country has been the location for several big productions in recent years including Outlander, which was partly shot in Fife and Perthshire, and the Chris Pine-starring Netflix film Outlaw King.
