Spartan Race all set for Fair City return

The elite event starts at the 2018 Spartan Race.
The elite event starts at the 2018 Spartan Race.

After a hugely successful first year, Spartan Race will be returning to Perth in 2019.

The mud run debuted in the Fair City in September 2018, and attracted more than  3,600 runners.

Organisers will be bringing the event back to Kinnoull Hill on the weekend of September 14 and 15, and are including a new children’s race.

More than 60 obstacles will be scattered across the hillside to be tackled by endurance athletes, casual runners and families flocking back to Perth for the penultimate race in a UK series.

Alongside the 5km sprint and 21km beast runs, a new 1.5km junior race for those aged four to 13 will be held for the first time, allowing for the whole family to take part.

The only mammoth 50km Ultra run in the UK will be held at the Perth woodland park, drawing in athletes from across the country. Already, there are only a handful of tickets for the longest distance race remaining.

The run took place in Scotland for the first time in 2016 at Edinburgh’s Nine Mile Burn before bosses shifted the event to Perth last year in what organisers describe as the “most beautiful, but most challenging, terrain”.

It has been confirmed the two longest races, starting from the South Inch Car Park, will be held on the Saturday and the Sprint and Kids races will take place on the Sunday.

More than £17,500 of prizes will be handed out at Spartan Race events across the UK and Ireland, including runs held in Windsor, Kent, Kildare, Gloucestershire and  Leicestershire.

Spartan Race’s general manager for UK and Ireland Sam Lansdale said: “Everybody at Spartan is absolutely thrilled to announce the schedule for the 2019 UK and Ireland series.

“With three different events of varying distance on offer, as well as a special event for kids, there really is a race for everyone to try their hand at this year.

“All our events will be bigger and better this year and we can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store!”
