A jilted lover tried to woo his estranged partner back with a Valentine’s break – then pushed her over and kicked her twice on the body for “disrespecting” him.
The romantic getaway at the Green Hotel in Kinross ended in violence as Onur Cocon attacked Mairead Murphy.
She eventually fled the room screaming for help and told staff: “My partner’s battered me. He’s done it before. Can you help me?”
She told Cocon: “We are not in Turkey any more. I’m not scared of you.”
The 34-year-old, of Union Street, Dundee, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted the February 14 assault.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said: “They had been in an on/off relationship for four and a half years and that had ended five or six weeks prior to the incident.
“The complainer was of the opinion the accused was trying to rekindle the relationship. They decided to book an overnight stay for Valentine’s Day.
“They checked in. Both were under the influence and drinking. The accused initiated an argument with the complainer over past issues in the relationship.
“He said she was disrespecting him. He came towards her and she shouted at him to leave her alone and stay away from her. He pushed her backwards to the ground.
“The accused kicked the complainer twice to the body. She screamed at him to stop and tried to get back to her feet.
“She covered her head with her hands and he slapped her.”
Ms Murphy fled into the foyer in a distressed state and with blood on her hands.
The court was told she suffered a number of injuries.
Cocon told police she “bruised easily, simply by touch”.
He added: “When someone hits you, you hit them back.”
Cocon told officers he had been “disrespected as a man”.
The court heard that despite the incident, Ms Murphy had resumed her relationship with the accused.
Sheriff Gillian Wade ordered Cocon to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work.
