A man who was shot dead during a hunting trip on a Perthshire estate has been named in Italy as Marco Cavola.

The 42-year-old is believed to have been the victim of a hunting accident gone wrong at the Rossie Estate near Inchture at 11.30am on Monday.

Mr Cavola, from Lariano –  about 50 km from Rome – had  reportedly travelled to Scotland on Sunday with two friends before the deadly incident occurred.

A postmortem is being carried out on the victim this afternoon and police are awaiting formal identification of the body from the family before releasing any further details.

According to reports in Italy, Mr Cavalo leaves behind a wife and three children, two girls aged 14 and 12, and a seven year old boy.

The businessman’s family, alongside the Italian council of the foreign ministry, travelled to Scotland today to provide  transportation of the body to Italy when it is released by police.
