A stricken collie desperately chased after its owner’s car after falling from a horsebox on one of Scotland’s
busiest roads.
The dog, named Gale, was secured in a crate within the box, but managed to escape as her owner made his way north along the A9, near Bruar.
The one-year-old rolled several times on the road before running after the towing vehicle, but later disappeared along the banking.
Lena Tocher Craib was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle behind and saw the collie fall from the horsebox.
She said: “The collie came out of the very small gap at the very top of the box – the farm trailer had sheep on the bottom, then there was a top floor that the dogs were in. The dog fell out and rolled a few times on to the carriageway but it eventually got back up on to its feet and automatically went on to the side verge and ran after the owner’s vehicle.
“There was nowhere to pull over to try and catch the dog. We eventually caught up with the owners of the collie to let them know what happened. We really felt for them as they were obviously upset with what had just happened and automatically left to go back to get it.”
There have been no further sightings of Gale since Monday’s incident.
Katie McCandless Thomas, of Dog Friendly Perthshire, said a collie had been found on the A9 near Inverness but this had been confirmed as another dog.
She said: “Gale is just over a year old, is chipped and is wearing a collar with an ID tag and her green lead was still attached.
“The owner is very upset by this unfortunate accident and appreciates everyone’s efforts towards finding Gale.”
Gale’s owner declined to comment.
